Many thanks to our educational speakers who share their expert knowledge of Enchanted Rock SNA's natural wonders with us! The generous gift of their time allows us to offer the activities free of charge. While not required, we gratefully accept your donations! Let us know if there is a topic you would like to see explored.

RUN WITH THE RANGER (Introduction to Trail Running)
   Learn about trail running etiquette in State Parks and State Natural Areas while experiencing the natural beauty that is Enchanted Rock with an interpretive ranger.  This is not a race and is recommended for novices and those that don't mind taking their time to learn about the history, flora and fauna, and geological features in the area. Bring a bottle of water to run with and a snack for afterwards.  Meet at the headquaters at 9:00 am. The run will last until approximately 11:00 am.  No pets please.  Reservations required. SUMMIT TRAIL HIKE
Join a park interpreter and/or a park volunteer for a hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock. Learn about natural and cultural history, flora and fauna, and conservation efforts going on to restore the park to its natural beauty.  Bring sturdy shoes, bottle of water, sunscreen.  Meet at the Gazebo at 9:30am (lasts until approximately 11:30am

"ROCK STAR" PARTY
Join HCA (Hill Country Astronomers) and park staff for a night of stargazing! A number of astronomers and telescopes will be on hand to assist you in viewing the planets and galaxies visible in the September night sky.  Arrive early to view the sun through the solar viewer before it goes down, and allow your eyes to adjust in preparation for darkness.  
What to bring: Red bulb flashlights only, please. Water, folding chairs, snacks.
Where:  Meet by the Gazebo at the Summit Trail

JUNIOR RANGER INDUCTION DAY
Are your children ready to become a Junior Ranger in Texas State Parks? Bring the whole family to Enchanted Rock to get your kids started on the NEW "Junior Ranger Activity Journal" with a Park Ranger! The Park Ranger will hand out free journals and get you started on an activity at the park.
Where:  Meet at the Gazebo

Turkey Trot with the Ranger
November 27, 2014
All Hikes and Runs will begin at 9 am.
Join Rangers for a 1.2 mile round-trip summit hike, a 3-mile jog, or 5-mile loop trail run through the park and burn off those calories before you consume them while you celebrate a new Thanksgiving tradition here at Enchanted Rock.  Bring your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated along the trail.  A suggested donation of $10 dollars will go to the Friends of Enchanted Rock.  Post-trot goodies will be provided by The Friends of Enchanted Rock. 
Bring:  Good shoes and appropriate clothing for the activity
Cost:  $7 park entry fee applies and a suggested donation of $10 for participants.
Reservations for the run, hike, jog is required.  Please contact Ranger Scott Whitener via e-mail to secure your spot for the event.
 
Grinch’s Full Moon Hike to the Summit
December 6 @ 7 pm
Join park staff on an exhilarating hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock.  Once at the top, enjoy a reading of the classic, How the Grinch stole Christmas! Get in the spirit and wear a “Grinch Stocking Cap” ; bring your own or pick one up in the park store.
 
Christmas in the Park
December 13, starting at 9:30 am
Enjoy a Hill Country Christmas at legendary Enchanted Rock, where a variety of holiday-themed events will be happening throughout the day.  Start the day with an Enchanted Hike at 9:30 am, where you’ll join Santa for a hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock.  At 4:30 pm, join Santa and his elves for an old-fashioned hayride through the park.  Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of Friends of Enchanted Rock.  At 7 p.m. there will be a special Night Time Hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock with Santa Claus and ring in the Christmas season.  Hot chocolate will be served. 
 
North Star Party
December 20, 5:30 pm
The North Star is missing and we need your help to find it!  Santa uses this star to find his way to your house.  Join park staff in finding this star and others.  This event promises to be fun for all ages. 
 
Christmas on “The Other Side of the Rock”
December 25 @ 9:30 am
Create a truly unique Christmas morning memory and join a park ranger on a hike to the other side of the rock know as Little Rock.  See the park from a different perspective than the summit.  This hike is for those with an adventurous spirit that want a real treat on Christmas Day.
 
First Day Hikes, Runs, and Yoga!
January 1 starting @ 9:30
First day hikes will be going on throughout the day.  Choose from the Loop Trail (4.5 miles), the Summit Trail (1.2 miles), Turkey Pass-Base Trail (2.2 miles),  or Echo Canyon-Little Rock (approx. 2.5 miles).  These hikes will be going on every hour throughout the day starting at 9:00 am.  Yoga will begin at 7:30 am, and a separate “Run with the Ranger” on the Loop Trail will start at 9:30 am.  All hikes will begin from the Gazebo.
