Can You Hang Out at E Rock Thursday May 28th in the Afternoon?

The Park now contracts with the Friends of Enchanted Rock to supply monitors for film crews using the Park.  This means that you hang out nearby with a radio, visit with the actors or models, and bask in the peacefulness and beauty of the landscape.

We get paid well for providing monitors, and that money goes directly into improvements at the park.  If you can break away tomorrow afternoon let one of us know.

E Rock Express Shuttle Service

Majesty Wine Tours, in concert with the Friends of Enchanted Rock, run a shuttle service from Fredericksburg to the Park.  This service is only offered on Saturdays and other peak days.  The shuttle may not run in the event of inclement weather, as both the visitation and the need for the service are diminished, so call 830-456-3231 for the latest information or to schedule the shuttle for your trip on days it is not running.  Charge for the round trip is $10 per adult and $5 per child/12 under.  Shuttle departs Fredericksburg (call for departure point) hourly from 9 - 3.  On days when the Park reaches peak visitation, you may find the Park closed to new autos, or there may be a line on the highway with an hour long wait for entrance.  Skip the line and get in even if the park is closed!  Note- the Shuttle fee does not include entrance into the Park.

Friends Work Day June 13

The Friends of Enchanted Rock are having a work day from 9 to 4 on Saturday, June 13th, 2015.  We have lined up some much needed projects which the tiny staff of the park don't have time for:

Climbing Area Clean-up.  Not as big a job as the one on Everest, but overdue.
Cave Clean-up.  Headlamps will be provided.
Highway 965 Clean-up.  The two miles adjacent to the park are our responsibility.
Brush work.  I can't describe this, the ranger will, but it sounds like work to me.
Re-setting the "No Swimming" sign at Frog Pond.  Yes, it has been pulled up by a park visitor recently, and needs to be put back in the ground.  Why the sign was pulled up is a mystery, but if you're crazy enough to do that, you might be crazy enough to want to swim in the pond.
Painting signs - maybe - we'll see.
Collecting and Sorting recycling.
Finally - a walk through the camping/picnic areas with all the volunteers in a massive sweep to pick up trash, probably at the end.

Why would you want to do this?

Good question, easy answer:  we are going to have a blast!  You will get free admission to the park, you will meet a lot of like-minded people, and we will have a Free Lunch in the natural "amphitheater" by the Carnivore Boulders (1/2 mile from campground, on the side of West Little Rock) with a presentation by our interpretive ranger, Scott Whitener, that you won't want to miss.

No free camping this time, all the camping spaces are already reserved (weekends almost to the end of June).  We will post information on alternate campgrounds.  Incidentally, the choice of cold beverages is considerably larger in those campgrounds than inside the park.

We would like you to let us know you are coming by emailing us, commenting on this blog, or on the Facebook Event Page.  Free admission will be by name from that list. Staging area will be near the Trailhead Gazebo/Bathrooms.

Contact Robert Deming, FOER, at rcdeming@gmail.com or 830-992-5676 if you have questions.

E Rock Xpress Shuttle

.

The friends have arranged for a shuttle service leaving hourly 9-3 from the Fredericksburg Elementary School round trip for $10 adults and $5 12/under. Park admission is not included.

The shuttle skips the line and goes in even if the park is closed. With the sun shining there will often be an hour wait. I'm not making this up.  Support the Friends and the E Rock Express!
