The History of Enchanted Rock

I traded with Ira Kennedy: a copy of my novel Enchanted Rock Red  for a copy of his The History of Enchanted Rock.  I got the better end of the deal.

Born in a tent in a migrant workers camp outside San Saba, Ira Kennedy was the right person to write this story.  His journey from that tent, to New York City artist, to a Hill Country journalist, and back to Hill Country artist is a compelling story of destinations and destiny.  If you are a fan of the Rock, this book will add meaning to your visits.  It is available at Fredericksburg Pie Company ($19.95) and goes well with cherry pie.  Both Ira's art and my novels are available at Artisans at Rocky Hill in Fredericksburg, and prints from his website.

Dog Days

I love dogs, and many of you do, too.  With cooler weather I am seeing many more dogs on the trails.  If you bring your dog, understand this:

The most common violation cited by park police officers at The Rock is 'dogs not leashed.'  There is a fine.
You know how lovable and friendly your own dog is, but not everyone is like you. Some people are actually afraid of your dog!

Pack it in, pack it out.  The park has provided plastic bags to assist you in this.  Don't think you can stash that bag of poop under a rock and I won't see it.

Take fido something to drink.  Don't let him drink out or wade in the vernal pools up top.

Appreciate your dog for loving you when no one else will.
